In an old workshop on the banks of the Nile in the city of Abutig in Assiut, where the scent of wood mingles with the echo of hammers, the story is renewed, and the craft of wooden boat-building remains a witness to a long history of patience.

The family of the late artist Fouad Kamel (1919–1973) has announced the discovery of a rare artistic trove belonging to the artist.
Engineer Ashraf Anwar Kamel, the artist’s nephew, stated that among the belongings of his father, Anwar Kamel, one of the founders of the Egyptian Surrealist movement, he found a bag containing approximately twenty artworks that had never been exhibited before. These include completed oil paintings, early sketches, and preparatory studies for works that later became well known.
Among the discoveries are five rare paintings from Kamel’s Surrealist period, created in the late 1930s while he was working as an art teacher.
This trove represents a genuine treasure for researchers, historians, and art collectors. It offers a rare opportunity to enter the artist’s working process and trace the development of his ideas before they reached their final form. It also sheds light on his early attempts to shape his artistic vision, his shifts in the use of color and light, and his ongoing revisions to composition.

Since last year, Bab Masr has been running its Architecture of the country campaign, which highlighted Sadek Pasha’s house one of Al-Darb Al-Ahmar’s key landmarks . Dr. Amnia Abdel Bar, Director of Development at the Egyptian Heritage Rescue Foundation, documented the building’s architectural history and issued an appeal for its preservation.

Today, the house is being demolished. It was removed from the urban coordination lists last year, and following the appearance of a minor crack in the façade, the Central District issued a demolition order on that basis.
